Job Overview
The MRI Technologist performs a wide range of magnetic resonance imaging procedures for patients of all ages. This role requires strong technical expertise, the ability to adjust imaging parameters for optimal diagnostic quality, and a thorough understanding of MRI safety protocols. The technologist also supports patient care by conducting screenings, administering IV contrast, and maintaining clear communication with both patients and clinical staff.
Zakres obowiązków:
- Conduct MRI examinations of the brain, body, spine, and extremities while adjusting scan parameters to accommodate varying patient needs.
- Select and modify technical factors, including imaging sequences and coil selection, to optimize image quality.
- Identify gross pathology and adjust T1/T2 parameters to provide clinically relevant diagnostic information.
- Perform diffusion studies, MR angiograms, reformats, and MIP imaging.
- Complete specialized exams such as MRA runoffs and post-arthrogram evaluations.
- Follow established imaging protocols and safety guidelines to minimize risk and ensure effective use of MRI technology.
- Operate imaging software to adjust window and contrast levels, scanning times, thickness, scout images, and 3D reconstructions.
- Start and discontinue IV lines for contrast studies and respond appropriately to contrast reactions, including emergency situations.
- Use IV contrast power injectors proficiently and document contrast usage accurately.
- Verify patient identity, review exam orders, confirm prior imaging, and perform comprehensive MRI safety screenings.
- Educate patients and others entering the MRI suite about safety concerns, including the risks associated with implants, devices, and loose objects.
- Review completed studies for technical accuracy, share them with interpreting radiologists, and communicate relevant post-exam information to care teams.
- Maintain accurate logs documenting patient data, exam details, and contrast usage.
- Prioritize patient care, respond to urgent needs, and execute physician instructions promptly.
- Utilize computer systems to manage patient orders, status updates, charges, and documentation.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the department.
Wymagania:
- Minimum of one year of experience as an MRI technologist, including on-the-job training or internships, or eligibility for MRI advanced certification; candidates must obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
- One year of recent experience as a radiologic technologist with ARRT certification, if not already certified in MRI.
- Completion of an accredited radiology technology program or MRI certificate program.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current certification in magnetic resonance imaging through an approved professional registry.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- State radiologic technologist certification, if applicable.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and assist patients; lift objects over 50 lbs; perform fine motor tasks; and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively despite interruptions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with imaging and medical software.
- Current continuing education requirements for professional certification.
- Venipuncture competency completed within three months of hire.
